Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Institute for Microsystems Technology

The Institute of Microsystems Technology at the University of Freiburg is a renowned institution specialising in research, development and teaching in the field of microsystems technology. The institute was founded in 1992 and is part of the university's Faculty of Engineering.

The Institute of Microsystems Technology aims to push the boundaries of technology in the field of microsystems and develop innovative solutions for various application areas. The Institute's interdisciplinary research activities cover a broad spectrum, including the development of microelectronics, microsensors, microactuators, microfluidics and biochips. The institute works closely with industrial partners to translate the results of research into practical applications and promote technology transfer.

The Chair of Application Development focuses on the research and development of microfluidic systems, biochemical analyses, nanopore applications and electrochemical energy systems. Expertise in the development of miniaturised diagnostic systems for self-testing and home testing is primarily contributed to the SeniorPRO network.
